Baptism

Baptism is one of the most beautiful and significant experiences in the life of every believer and disciple of Jesus. If you want to follow Christ and haven't yet, we encourage you to do so soon! Make up your mind today!

Baptism is the means by which a person makes a public proclamation of his faith in Christ and thus begins his discipleship. In the waters of baptism, a person says without words: "I confess my faith in Christ; Jesus has cleansed my soul from sin, and now I have a new life of sanctification."

Christian baptism illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and at the same time also illustrates our death to sin and our new life in Him. When the sinner confesses the Lord Jesus, he dies to sin (Romans 6:11) and is raised to a new life (Colossians 2:12). In Christian baptism, the action of being immersed in the water represents being dead to sin, and the action of coming out of the water represents the clean and holy life that follows salvation. Romans 6:4 says it this way: "We were buried with him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life."

Simply put, Christian baptism is an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly in the life of a believer. Baptism is an act of obedience to the Lord after salvation.

Baptism is also an instrument to communicate identity. To use a modern illustration, it's like a birth certificate; that communicates the full name of an individual, the names of their parents, the place and date of birth; this being a legal instrument that gives identity to a person. Thus, baptism is an instrument to publicly communicate that a person identifies himself as a Christian, that he is a new creature and that he is in Christ. You are now a child of God!

We are so excited that you are learning about baptism! We pray that it will soon be a decision and an act of obedience.
